Very Easy! Be in complete control while typing. No dependence on correct English spellings. Read the rules once and type any word, and even create your own style of writing.

Just follow these rules for Assamese :

Rule 1

Type the phonetically nearest English alphabet repeatedly till you see the character you want onscreen. Same as you type on your mobile phone while sending a text message (SMS).
Type S once for স , twice for শ and thrice for ষ .
Also, to attach র to an alphabet as in ক্র কৃ type R repeatedly after the alphabet.
For ক্রম , type K R R M ,
For কৃপা , type K R R R P A .

Rule 2

For half characters, type X after the alphabet. For গুপ্তা , type G U P X T A .
For কর্মা K R X M A .

Rule 3

Type Z to get all the special characters and symbols in Assamese .

For example, by typing Z repeatedly , you will get ং ঁ ় ঃ and so on.

Thus, for typing মং , type M Z .
To type অঃ , type A A Z Z Z Z .

Yes. The Lipikaar Desktop Application is not dependent on Internet connectivity. It is an offline program which resides on the background of your Windows operating system. All you need to do is to select your language, enable Lipikaar and you are ready to type in any Windows-based application like Word, Powerpoint, Excel etc.

The Lipikaar FireFox Extension is a free tool for Internet applications. This extension technically does require an Internet connection, but after installation it runs through FireFox. Thus, even if you are offline, the extension functions the same way as when you are online. You can turn off your connection, finish all the typing in your Internet Application using the Lipikaar FireFox extension. Similar to how you can be offline while composing an email in Outlook or Thunderbird.
